Policy Summer Series #3: Using the World to Understand Ourselves

Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 7:00 PM until 7:45 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

Herschel Nachlis, a Government and Public Policy Professor, teaches a range of public policy classes at Dartmouth. One of them, the Global Practicum in Policy Leadership, involves a different topic and place of travel each year. Students study a topic during the fall term in Hanover, such as the Eurozone and global financial crisis or U.S. involvement in the Colombian peace process. At the end of the term the class visits that country or region for two weeks to meet with policymakers, journalists, academics, and other experts who can share their experiences. The goal is to learn about important international topics firsthand, and also to bring back lessons that are applicable to other policy settings, domestic or international. Herschel Nachlis will describe the Global Practicum in Policy Leadership in this session, focusing on his class's 2019 travels to Greece, Germany, and Switzerland to study financial crises.
